A
graduate of Bachelor's degree in Biblical Studies at the Bethel
Bible College, Pastor Shane (as he is fondly called) has been in
the ministry for almost twenty years. The highlights of his spiritual
calling and journey can be trailed back from his country of birth
and origin, Philippines.
With a humble beginning, in his hometown in Calumpit, Bulacan, he
learned to support himself and his studies through hard work and
perseverance. In the 1980's, he came to know the Lord Jesus Christ
and eventually heeded God's calling and became a pastor of several
churches. From then on, God has become His inspiration in all his
undertaking; all the way from the Philippines to Vancouver and to
Toronto.
To the people around him, this man of God is truly a "shepherdman"
which aptly describes his heart for leading, encouraging and caring
for others. Together with his loving and supportive wife Rosa Ruzol,
they serve God with gladness ....and see God's glory at work. The
Lord our God continuously shows them his approval and makes their
efforts successful.
After 10 years, God blessed them with a miracle baby and they named
her Kayla Christine. Pastor Shane, Rose, Kayla with the congregation
of Rivers of Life International Ministries envision and pray to
reach every individual for Christ and look forward with awe and
anticipation for God's will, work and purposes happen in every believer's
life at R.O.L.I.M. ... and let the rivers flow...
Pastor Jhun Torres
Back
in the Philippines, Pastor Jun was in the mission field in the mountainous
Mindoro Oriental for five years (1996-2001). It really takes a deep
calling from God and a passion for lost souls to be able to do this
big task on behalf of the Lord's work in this kind of environment.
But as Pastor Jun spearheads to a wider and deeper extent the vision
of the mission and evangelism ministries; he reminisces the challenges
of sharing the Gospel to the people of Mindoro especially to the
native Mangyans with great joy.
His wife, Pastor Mhaan Esternon Torres, in the meantime, continues
to serve God back in the Philippines. She helps in pastoring the
congregation in Baruyan, Margang, Bayanan and Paglantayanan; all
in Oriental Mindoro. Indeed God has a purpose for everything and
though miles apart, this husband and wife team, together with their
three children Ma. Bernadette, Rod Samuel and David Kim share the
same vision in reaching out to people and endeavor in adhering to
the Great Commission found in Matthew 28:19, aiming to make Christ
known as Lord and Savior to all men.
Pastor Leodegario "Gary" Pondang
Ptr.
Gary is married to Cem Pondang with whom he has two sons who share
his passion for music, Adam Josh and Nathanael Pondang. He got born
again through music in 1986. At the age of 14, he was already searching
the
Lord, but got misled by a cult which practiced the occult. Nevertheless,
God is good. He revealed himself to those who diligently seek him;
Gary got saved. Since then, he has been serving in the Lord’s
vineyard with joy in his heart.
As a band member of Binhi and New Hope, he went to different places
in the Philippines performing in evangelistic concerts which led
to the salvation of many unbelievers. He obtained his bachelors
in Electrical Engineering from Adamson University in 1988. After
passing the Engineering Board Exam, he worked for 13 years in Saudi
Arabia. Despite arduous persecution in that country, he continued
to exercise his faith as a member, music minister and student at
JFCM.
He came to Canada on January 31, 2003 and committed himself to ROLIM
where he became the music director of the Praise and Worship Team
in 2004. He mentors young musicians and invests his time, talents
and treasures for the glory of God. In addition, he constructs and
maintains the church’s website. Gary presently works as IT
Personnel at Quality Meats.
Pastor Hilario "Larry" Alpay
Ptr.
Larry is married to a very prayerful Sis. Teodora (Dory) C. Alpay
and is blessed with two kids, Abigaille Rachel and Sarah Praise.
As an overseer of ROLIM’S Care and Share Ministry, he assists
Ptr. Shane in the building up of
the body of Christ through a holistic approach: prayers, counselling,
house and hospital visitations, follow-ups, benevolence –
all for God’s service and glory. In the words of Ptr. Larry,
"serving God is not easy, but by trusting your Lord it becomes
a reality."
This ministry is an integral part to bind and build up the congregation
so that the family relationship will be established and strengthened.
He was raised a Roman Catholic by a very religious family but God
found him and he came to know our Lord Jesus Christ in a very personal
way.
Now that he is in the truth, he shares the mission and vision of
this ministry to radiate the light of Jesus not just by the communication
of the gospel, but by showing other people the care and the willingness
to share the abundant blessings that we have freely received from
God. This will lead them to believe and accept the Lord Jesus Christ
in their lives. And in the same way, our light should shine before
men, that they may see our good deeds and praise our Father in heaven.
Ptra. Maria "Eden" G. Roasa
Ptra.
Eden is married to Danilo Roasa for 31 years , mother to 4 adult God-fearing
children: Don, Diane, Dan, Danica and daughter-in-law, Cathy and a
grandmother to a 3yr. old Alexa (Boo). Surrendering her life to Jesus
was a
choice she made more than twenty years ago, a decision that changed
the course of her life and that of her loved ones. It also marked
her eternal
destiny.
Although a registered chemist, she chose to serve the Lord in the
ministry with her growing children while her husband worked in Saudi
Arabia for almost 17 years. To excel in her teaching ministry, she
enrolled at Asian
Theological Seminary (ATS) and PACE Graduate School. She became a
Bible school teacher at Kingsway Bible Seminary as well as a school
teacher and principal at Faith Christian Academy. Along with her family,
she also got involved in many mission works and an outreach near a
garbage dumpsite in Payatas, Philippines.
Her journey was not at all easy, but she never regretted making the
choice of following the Lord in all her endeavours. Ptra. Eden currently
engages in equipping every willing ROLIM believer for maturity and
spiritual growth and in training leaders for God’s service.
It is her desire to reach out to others and finish well in the Education
and Mission fields.
Pastora Rina Laya
Ptra.
Rina is considered one of the pillars of ROLIM because of her unwavering
support to the leadership and ministries of this church. God demonstrated
in her midlife His ability to make things beautiful in His time
by blessing her with a God-fearing lifetime partner.
As an unbeliever, she was one of those people who have tasted success
and whose life's ambition came to reality, but felt that something
was still missing. She was still dissatisfied and lost. In 1992,
she found God's forgiveness and discovered a new purpose for living
and learned that love, peace, joy, and happiness do not come from
success, but from a personal relationship with God through the person
of His Son Jesus. This experience made her show compassion to the
lost.
On her first mission trip to the Philippines in 1999, she was challenged
to reach out to people and make a difference in someone else's life
for Christ. Since then, she spearheads the Mission Ministry. With
God’s favour, she was able to retire from work at an early
age despite few years of service. With her colleagues in God’s
vineyard in the Missions Ministry of ROLIM, she continually extends
support to God’s servants and workers in the urban areas in
the Philippines, especially in Mindoro.
Pastora Alice G. Perada
Ptra.
Alice has been saved for the past 23 years and has been one of the
pastoral leaders of ROLIM since it first started seven years ago.
She is the Bible Study/Care Group leader in the John/Leslie area
every Friday and is also involved in the Prayer and Intercessory
Ministry. For her, this has been a great seven years of serving
the Lord in ROLIM. She sees the hand
of God working in our midst even in trials and challenges. It has
also been a time of learning - learning to walk in faith more, learning
to trust Him more and learning to know his ways more.
She says that in all of these, “it is good to know and serve
this good and living God. He is one of a kind and deserves all the
praise, worship, and love that are due to him – that is exactly
what I want to do for the rest of my life. I would like to thank
the ROLIM family for allowing me and the Pastoral Staff to serve
you all. Thank you also to all the other leaders and pastors of
this church. Your love and service to God and to this fellowship
is exemplary. And to Pastor Shane Torres, our Pastor and friend,
thank you very much, I cannot be in the service of this church and
be what I am today if you have not given me the opportunity to serve
and develop my gifting and calling. Thank you for the patience and
confidence. You are indeed a man of God.”
Pastora Shirley Schaper
Ptra.
Shirley is one of nine children born from Delfin-Albano, Isabela Province,
Philippines. She is married to Wayne Schaper with whom she has one
son, William. She was raised in a Methodist home. In her early years,
she
taught Sunday school and was very active in the local church.
In 1991, after finishing college, where she graduated with honours,
she went abroad to work in Hong Kong and then to Canada where she
continued to serve the Lord in Toronto. She has been a part of ROLIM's
pastoral staff working with Bro. Larry Alpay in the Care and Share
ministry. Her focus in Care and Share is to lift up the needs of people
and the building up of the body of Christ through prayer, visitation
and follow-ups.
Shirley is a blessing to ROLIM as she is very passionate about the
ministry that God has called her to. She loves to meet and greet new
members and make them feel welcome in the church family. She believes
in communicating the Gospel by showing that ROLIM cares and by sharing
her gifts and blessings. Shirley is energetic and loves to encourage
others. She likes to stay focused on God, her reference point, to
keep her balance in serving the Lord, to be persistent in prayer and
to give God all the Glory.
